Brian
With two degrees in fine arts, and 35+ years as an illustrator and graphic designer, I am a visual artist focused on affirming the good in life.
Commercially, I’ve designed ads, corporate communications, and trade show exhibits for retail, industry, and non-profit organizations. I’ve also illustrated a broad range of subjects from the technical to the whimsical.
In 2009, I created Studio Cobalt LLC, to provide graphic design and illustration to clients. Now, I’m adding my personal artistic expressions in drawing and printmaking (with even a bit of relief sculpture) into the mix.

My artistic vision has evolved over the years into a devotion to depict the GOOD in everyday life. Through my subject matter of people, their things, and their pursuits, my compositions strive to capture something beyond the commonplace. They are meditations on things that are true, noble, pure, lovely, good report, virtuous, and praiseworthy.
Currently, I’m executing series of limited-edition prints of toys, musicians, and scenes of people enjoying simple weekend activities like antiquing, vintage plane shows, and farmers markets. Visually, I introduce elements - a fun moment, a vibrant purple, an unusual perspective - to surprise and invite a closer look.
I’m confident you’ll enjoy my art and invite some home to appreciate it for a good, long while.
Warm Regards,

Digital Printmaking
As an undergraduate art student, I majored in drawing and painting along with some exposure to lithography and serigraphy. In graduate school, I specialized in stone lithography.
That academic experience combined with my commercial experience has influenced and broadened my personal artistic expressions in both technique and subject matter.
While still drawing with traditional materials, lately my method for printmaking has become DIGITAL. Beginning with photographs I’ve taken, I redraw the photos using a mouse and drawing tablet. Then I fill in the line drawing with color. The resulting piece of art is a digital file. Unlike scanning a drawing or painting, the benefits of working this way are very direct, taking advantage of some of the digital tools offered today. Mouse and software become my pencil, chisel or squeegee.
My prints are executed on high-end printers that use archival-quality ink and 100% cotton-rag paper. These prints will maintain their vibrant color and their surface integrity for many years.
